Lurking below the surface of the Ballona Wetland is 7 to 8 Billion Cubic Feet of Natural Gas that SoCalGas (Sempra Energy) imports from Texas, Oklahoma and other areas.

The circumstances are very similar to Porter Ranch. Past History shows leaking oil wells have provided a pathway for these gases to migrate to the surface.

The street was closed Thursday night, due to the potential of explosive gas might be accumulated under the asphalt. Backhoes rapidly removed the street's asphalt layer, for dozens of feet, following the oil trail under the asphalt. attempting to locate the pipe crack.
