The Honorable Dick Cheney Vice President of the United States
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington DC 20500
Dear Vice President Cheney:
California has lost more wetland habitat than any other state. In Los Angeles County alone, 95% of historic wetlands have been destroyed. One of the few remaining habitats is the Ballona Wetlands.
While I support your vision of restoring 100,000 acres of wetland per year, the hope for restoration, let alone preservation, of this precious resource in Los Angeles is diminishing as development threatens this 1087-acre habitat.
Please direct Mike Davis of the Army Corp of Engineers and Jamie Rappaport Clark of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to do everything in their powers to help protect this precious coastal resource and make it all part of the public trust. California voters already approved $25 million toward the purchase of land at the Ballona Wetlands. But we need your support to help make protection of the entire wetland a reality for the benefit of future generation and the wildlife that depends on this critical coastal habitat.
Sincerely, |
